1. Fruit Salad and Muesli… and Sometimes Kippers!
One of the most successful business leader’s in history, Richard Branson, has a good ol' reliable bowl of high-fibre muesli with a fruit salad to start his day. On occasion he will even treat himself to some kippers, a rather oily fish that was never very popular in my household growing up. But if it’s good enough for Branson then its dam sure good enough for me!
2. Health-A-Fied Pizza
Former First Lady, Michelle Obama’s favourite food is a veggie pizza on whole-wheat bread as she states:
It’s really good, just loaded with vegetables and cheese and tomato sauce. I love that.
Traditional pizza crust is comprised of simple carbs which convert quickly into sugar within your body, diminishing your energy and memory as the day goes on. On the other hand, this healthy whole-wheat option has the opposite effect, helping you to remain mentally alert and aware all day long. The addition of extra vegetables is also great as it has been shown that eating more fruit and vegetables as part of a balanced diet can increase you’re productively by up to 20% (1).
Al Roker, famous American weather forecaster, journalist, television personality, actor, and author will usually take an early morning smoothie containing fibre powder, 8-ounces of almond milk, berries, ginger, agave and protein powder.Smoothies are an ideal source of nutrients for those with demanding schedules, as they are easy to make and your body has an easier time processing nutrients when in a liquid form.
Celebrity trainer Shaun T, famed for his ‘Insanity’ diet and fitness plans (selling more than 10 million copies worldwide) enjoys a variety of berries each day, including strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. Shaun says:
Berries like raspberries, strawberries and blackberries taste amazing, satisfy my sweet tooth, and are good for brain power. They also have tons of antioxidants that help slow down the ageing process.
Berries are a smart choice according to a study presented at Experimental Biology 2009, as not only do they provide energy for the brain, but they can also help to reduce belly fat, lower cholesterol, improve glucose control and insulin sensitivity (2).
5. Almond Butter and Flax
Learning some of the morning habits of successful people (in terms of their diet) can be very useful too!...
... Singer-songwriter, actor, dancer, and record producer, Justin Timberlake eats waffles with flax and almond butter with a scrambled egg first thing in the morning. After he hits the gym, Justin will have a protein shake or eggs.Almonds are rich in vitamin E, which studies suggest can reduce the risk of coronary disease (3). Flax is another inspired choice because it is known to reduce inflammation and cholesterol (4).
6. Turkey Burger and Sweet Potato
Critically acclaimed actor, Mark Wahlberg begins his day with avocado and egg white breakfast, followed by a gym session. He then preps lunch consisting of a turkey burger, sweet potato and salad.A balanced, healthy diet should contain vegetables, fibre-rich carbohydrates, healthy fats and lean protein - so throw in some cashew nuts and olive oil and Mark’s breakfast and lunch has it all!
7. Green smoothies
